Professional Workshops

"From Here to Whenever: Writing and Teaching Historical Fiction" (one hour)

Tom explains how he works both sides of the story, writing young adult novels that fit into the social studies curriculum he teaches. Using his first book, The Seminole and the Slave (8th grade American history) and his forthcoming release, Vesuvius (6th grade Ancient Rome) as a basis for discussion, Tom shares research, writing, and teaching strategies, including ways to get your students writing their own historical fiction.
