Baby alligators stick together while soaking up the sun. Their mother is only a few feet away, and they will stay close to her during the first two years of their lives. Adult female alligators lay up to thirty eggs a year, and Mom is very protective of her offspring. Sometimes they sit on her back or head, and she guards them from predators like raccoons, otters, herons, snakes...even other alligators! Imagine Dad coming home for a snack. That would be one family squabble to stay out of!
