Johnston Ridge Trail #207. These two images show the north face of Mt. St. Helens and the scarred landscape that withstood the brunt of the blast. Once a forested valley where rivers flowed and wildlife thrived, the pumice plain is now a living laboratory where scientists study how life slowly but surely returns to a devasted area.
