Nooksack Cirque


Though this trip isn't very long on mileage, it should be full of adventure. Your guidebook calls it one of the most dramatic spots in the North Cascades, with the way only partly on trail, the rest being bushwacking and cobble-hopping. It is recommended only to rational people. You take a moment to ponder this and decide that you're smart enough to know when to say when. You promise yourself you'll turn back if it gets too sketchy. So you throw on your forty pound pack, pick up the ten pound shovel, and start down the trail...

Unfortunately, fifteen minutes into your trip, the mosquitos have locked onto you. First it was just an occasional buzzing around your ears. Then you swatted one off your neck without realizing it. Finally, you watched as one tried to suck blood from your wrist. You spray yourself with bug spray, but also notice that there are flies beginning to swarm around you, and they don't seem to mind the bug spray.
